Patricia Burns, City Paintings
21st March – 20th April
The Lavit Gallery presents City Paintings by Patricia Burns.
In this body of new work Burns explores the parts of Cork city where she lives and works. Using these parts of the city she produces a series of paintings focusing on themes of home, yet contrasts that with the mystery and potential to be found in small places painted in a winter light.
There is a familiarity to these places, and yet, no distinct features of their location are immediately apparent. Composed of partial roof-tops, a tree, perhaps a telephone wire, Burns perfectly captures the feeling of walking home on a winter evening, from the glow of a streetlight to the chill in the air.
Born in Dublin, Patricia Burns studied Fine Art at Dublin Institute of Technology and Crawford College of Art + Design, Cork. Recent solo shows include November Paintings, Taylor Galleries, Dublin (2014); Hinterland – The Glen Paintings, Garter Lane Arts Centre, Waterford (2012) and Triskel Arts Centre, Cork (2011). Burns’ work is represented in corporate and private collections throughout Ireland and in the public collections of AIB Group, AXA Insurance, Ballinglen Arts Foundation, OPW / State Art Collection, and others. She lives and works in Cork city.
