Land(ed): an exhibition of Contemporary Craft

1st – 31st August 2019

Land(ed):

Group exhibition in contemporary craft

Joe Hogan, Mourne Textiles, Stuart Cairns, Elaine Riordan, Simon Kidd, Alan Meredith, and Mandy Parslow

Land(ed) is the title of a multidisciplinary exhibition which runs at the Lavit Gallery in Cork to coincide with Cork Craft Month in the city and county. It will be guest curated by Stephen O’Connell. O’ Connell is the founder of GLAS, a new platform for contemporary Irish craft and design, which will launch later this year.

The works featured will reflect each of the craftsperson’s engagement with the theme of land and landscape. It will showcase materials and forms which represent a distillation of that landscape. The title for the exhibition also offers potential word-play and allows for ‘land’ to be considered as an action or activity, the landed object is one that is brought into existence by a human hand or one embellished with precious natural resources and found materials.

The contributing artists are; furniture-maker Alan Meredith, basket-maker Joe Hogan, ceramists Elaine Riordan,  London-based Simon Kidd, wall-hangings from Mourne Textiles, a collection of intriguing vessels and utensils from metalsmith Stuart Cairns, and ceramics by Mandy Parslow
