The Graduate Group Exhibition is an annual opportunity awarded by Lavit Gallery to graduates of MTU Crawford College of Art & Design. This year’s exhibition is kindly sponsored by Victoria’s Antiques, Oliver Plunkett Street, Cork.
Included in this year’s show are Fine Art graduates Louise Blake, Derbhla Hooper, Michael Landers, Ada Lynch, Róisín Mohally, Conor O’Brien, Abbie O’Mahony, Soairse Radford and Ciara Ryan together with Contemporary Applied Arts graduates Lynn O’Donovan, Ana Maria Surdu and Oskar Szewczuk.
Selection for this award is made by the Director of Lavit Gallery and one or more of the organisation’s board members following a preview of the fourth-year degree show in June each year. A shortlist of students is made based on the overall quality of the work but also paying special attention to presentation, finish and concept. A final selection is then made in order to form a coherent group exhibition that best showcases the work of the artists in relation to each other rather than in isolation as would have been the case in the degree show. The graduates are taken through the curatorial and production processes from start to finish beginning with one-to-one meetings to discuss the show and their contribution. Additional Continued Professional Development supports are also made available in the form of workshops including topics such as Preparing for Proposals and Exhibition Making. The artists are also given the opportunity to participate in an exhibition tour in order to gain experience talking about their work to a gallery audience.
This exhibition forms part of Lavit Gallery’s 60 year anniversary programme, Cork Arts Society having been founded in 1963.
